Expense Sharer J2ME User Manual
This page gives you a quick overview of the menu structure on your mobile device, and what each menu choice does for you.
Config
  • Accounts
 If you are a bunch of people travelling together and you want to keep track of who owes who how much, you create an account for each of the persons. The account name will then typically be the name of the person.

If you want to use Expense Sharer to enter the expenses which will later be the basis for your travel expense report, you typically create an account with the name of your company, and one account with your name.

If you want to use Expense Sharer to keep track of your personal economy, you can create accounts like Food, Electricity, Pleasure etc.

  • Events
 Since you might have several projects, trips etc. going on simultanously, you are allowed to create several events which are isolated from each other. I.e. the expenses you create for an event will not influence the balance in other events.
  • Currencies
 If you travel abroad you are likely to have expenses in different currencies. Add the currencies you need here. Also remember to update the currency rates as they change with time.
  • What
 This choice let you edit a list of categories. The categories will appear when you edit an expense. If you want to keep track of how much money you spend on specific things, this is the place to add it. Typical categories are food, transport, etc.
  • Where
 This choice let you edit a list of locations. The locations will appear when you edit an expense. Some users like to know where they spent their money. If you don't care, you can create a location named "The universe".
  • Setup
 This choice let you decide which layout should be used for the buttons on your phone. I.e. changing the layout will change which button you have to press to select "Back", "Next" and so forth.

The default layout when installing the program is suitable on most phones, but on some phones the other layout can be more convenient.
Expenses This choice lets you enter new expenses for an event as well as editing already entered expenses. The information you have entered in the config menu will decide which choices you get when you fill in the information for an expense.
Balance This choice lets you select an event as well as currency for which you want to see the running balance.
Register This choice shows you which registration number you should use if you decide to purchase Expense Sharer.
Upload This choice uploads all your data to www.expensesharer.com. The first time you upload your data you will be assigned a username and a password which you can use to access your data on the web site.
